Dot’s Guinea Pig Introduction Process

There’s a New Pig Among Us! Dot the Guinea Pig will be introduced to the Happy Cavy Herd in 2 weeks. Until then, new puzzles pieces will be released each week until her web cam debut on August 3!

As many of you know, Bitsy passed away on May 18 due to complications from lymphoma. During the last year of Bitsy’s life, she required diligent care and attention that, many times, took away from The Humans spending a lot of time with the rest of the HappyCavy Family. But since Bitsy’s passing, The Humans certainly made up for lost time with lots of cuddles, super-yummy treats, and extra floor-time (we’re talking hour-long play sessions with tons of new hidey boxes and treats!).

By now, the The Herd has grown accustomed to Bitsy’s absence, and it seems like such a shame to not include another pig in on the HappyCavy fun! So, for the past few weeks, The Humans began discussing the possibility of adopting a new guinea pig.

Almost as if someone was reading The Humans’ minds, on Tuesday, Human #2 was contacted by a friend from work via email. The friend said that she had a guinea pig named Dot who needed a new home. (The Humans have earned quite a reputation as “guinea pig slaves”!).

Dot, a two year old rescued guinea pig, had been staying with Human #2’s friend to keep a rabbit company after losing a long-time bunny-companion. Unfortunately, the bunny became not very fond of his guinea pig cage-mate and, after numerous introduction attempts, Dot had to be separated.

Human #2’s friend, being a wonderful bunny mummy, knew she had to get Dot to a place where she could have friends with whom to bond and play. The Humans were happy to say “yes”!

And so, today at 1 PM Pacific Time, the HappyCavy Family has grown by 1: a Dot!

Dot needs a new name, one that fits her personality: sweet, calm, and playful. Please share your suggestions (non-human names only, please) with us at Facebook or Twitter!

Dot will be in quarantine for two weeks to ensure her health and safety in her new home. She will be introduced to the the HappyCavy herd the weekend of August 3 after which she will make her debut on the Guinea Pig Web Cams.

Until Dot’s introduction, 2 new puzzle pieces will be posted to the blog each week until August 3, when you can get your first glimpse at Dot: the newest HappyCavy!

We’re so excited to have Dot and we hope you are, too!

Please say “hello” to Dot in the comments below! She could really use a friendly welcome to her new home! 😀
