About This Guinea Pig Poem
Delphi suffered an injury as a young guinea pig and, as a result, slowly lost the use of his legs. This photo was taken close to his passing in the afternoon of August 22, 2013.
The guinea pig poem below was written by Delphi’s Human mom, Alia, several days before Delphi left for the Rainbow Bridge. Alia did a wonderful job giving Delphi a full and happy life.
We hope you enjoy this poem written in Delphi’s honor.
Delicate pink lips as precise as a surgeon’s blade
in concerted effort to dance away from long herbivorous incisors.
Soft, white fur springs from rosy flesh like the first flush of spring grass.
Teeth sink into succulent feast.
Juice, the color of late-evening, beach sunsets, overflows from the sweet lips and fast-moving white enamel,
left to right like a typewriter.
Cool, the flesh of the fruit gives freely,
as does my heart for you.
